Will Massie survive Trump's opposition?
May 19 is a busy primary day, highlighted by Rep. Thomas Massie's renomination bid in Kentucky's 4th District. Massie has drawn President Trump's ire by breaking with the president on the 2025 OBBB megabill, the Epstein Files, and the Iran conflict. Supreme Court sends VRA cases back to lower courts
The Supreme Court has sent two Voting Rights Act (VRA) cases back to lower courts for reconsideration. The cases revolve around a court order for new legislative maps in Mississippi, and a lawsuit in North Dakota alleging dilution of Native American voters.

Cassidy falls in Louisiana's GOP primary
Sen. Bill Cassidy finished third in Louisiana's Republican primary for U.S. Senate. He garnered about 25% of the vote, among the worst showings for any pro-impeachment Republican who sought reelection. He is the first incumbent senator to finish worst than second in a primary since 1944. Rep. Julia Letlow and Treasurer John Fleming will head to a June 27 runoff. South Carolina Governor calls redistricting special session
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has called for a special session on congressional redistricting. South Carolina lawmakers will debate a new map that could eliminate longtime Rep. Jim Clyburn, the only Democratic member of the state's house delegation.

Louisiana legislature advances new congressional map
Louisiana is moving toward redistricting its congressional map. On Thursday, the state Senate advanced a proposal that would have one heavily Democratic seat stretching from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. This map would eliminate Democratic Rep. Cleo Fields's 6th District and likely produce a 5-1 GOP delegation after the 2026 election. The state House is expected to vote next week.
